Anshei Lubavitch Center For Chasidic Life
The origins of Anshei Lubavitch began with 2 small class shul’s founded in 2011. Over time they moved between various rented storefronts before settling in a second-floor walkup above a kosher pizza shop.
Over time, Anshei Lubavitch went from being a shul merely for Shabbos services to a full-fledged Jewish community center. Sunday mornings saw a three-hour Kollel program that combined Torah study and prayer with a babysitting service so that the husbands in the family could bring their children to shul and let their wives rest. Rabbi Garelik began giving daily Torah classes while a Women’s Circle was opened to offer the shul’s women a full calendar of programs and a preschool opened for children.
In the winter of 2018 the shul, which by now has more than 100 active families, moved to a larger leased premises at 578 Albany Ave in East Flatbush, just over the border south of Crown Heights. In the 6 years since the move, Anshei Lubavitch has evolved into a thriving center for Jewish life. Aside for the packed minyan on Friday night and Shabbat day, there are multiple minyan three times a day. The Sunday morning Kollel program boasts 100 people every week. There are non-stop chasidus shiurim each morning from 6:30-10 am followed by Shachris, while many shiurim take place each evening between Mincha and Maariv. The women’s programming has expanded to multiple times a month as well as an annual Shabbaton. The kids program boasts 8 classes for children ages 3-14. There is a separate teens minyan run by the younger Bachurim.
Alongside these projects are myriad programs to assist the community’s families in their time of need. This includes relatively small things, such as preparing weeks of supper for families whose mothers have recently given birth, to larger things such as direct financial assistance to those who have fallen on hard times, all done in a discreet manner.
